EVACUATION CENTRE

built in 2016

PROJECT LOCATION

Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines

An Evacuation Centre is a safe place to where people can escape from an area that contains an imminent threat or hazard, being it a conflict or natural disaster. This specific project is located in a region prone to be affected by typhoons or earthquakes. The building’s octagonal prism shape ensures a radial distribution of its reinforced concrete structure, known to be one of the best options against both hazards. To allow its multipurpose function, it was designed with a double skin wall, which encloses an access ramp to its second floor. This solution allows the natural ventilation of its core, trough mismatched openings between both perimeter walls, avoiding the penetration of flying debris into its safe haven.
