ATAURO EMPREZA DIAK

built in 2014

PROJECT LOCATION

Atauro, Díli District, East-Timor

Empreza Diak is a Timorese Organisation that works to end poverty, empowering people creating new livelihood opportunities to build better futures. The project, aiming to expand Empreza Diak’s activities, (in a remote island twenty miles north of Díli), responds to a specific functional program, attending the diversity of the programs of this Organization.

The very limited budget, together with the very poor construction resources determined the design of both pavilions, which recurred to local practices of construction and available materials, such as stone, timber and hollow concrete blocks. The experience turned out to be enriching both for the architects and for the community involved in the construction, thus serving also the main purposes of the Organization.
